SAINT JACQUES’ - VILLEFRANCHE DE CONFLENT

The northern nave is the oldest part of the building and is early 12th Century. The 'ensemble' was redesigned in the 13th Century - giving the flat chevet as well as the side chapels and the steeple in the northwest corner. The town’s fortifications were remodeled in the late Seventeenth Century when the parish church was also completely altered, its pink marble structure consisting of two columns each surmounted by carved capitals which support a 12th century arch which has been incorporated into the northern wall, to the left of the original entrance.
